For a national women’s magazine, I write profiles of women who have founded not-for-profit organizations with missions that address various needs in their communities. The organization can either be a 501 (c) 3 or one that has a fiscal sponsor. The profilee must be the mother or stepmother of one or more children who are currently ages seven to 17. She may also have younger or older children as well as grandchildren. If the children and husband/partner (if she has one) pitch in to further her mission, that’s a plus. The profilee can be either a volunteer or a paid staffer as long as she is also the founder or co-founder. The mission should be local or national in scope. An international component is acceptable as long as it’s not the main focus. Missions that touch the lives of women and children are of particular interest. Please do not respond if you are pitching a woman who has founded a for-profit business such as one that markets products or services.
